About me

Michał Męciński

Following our will and wind
We may just go where no one's been
-- Tool, Lateralus

My name is Michał Męciński, I live in Poland, I was born in 1982. I graduated Computer Studies at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. I currently work as a Microsoft .NET developer and project manager for a young but quickly expanding software company in Gliwice. I'm also involved in creating free software for both Linux and Windows.

There are some projects for which I engage as much time and energy as I can afford. They often take years to emerge before the idea evolves into the shape that satisfies me. I'm trying to avoid conventional solutions and constantly look for possible improvements in order to create elegant code and functional applications.

It's difficult to specify one domain of programming which I like most. I'm interested in everything that requires some non-trivial skills. Once my dream was to create computer games, as I played every possible FPS game while I was studying. But in fact, with the right attitude, everything can be a challenge. At the moment I have plans for the nearest few years and I think I won't confine myself to this.

Another important thing in my life is music, which inspires me, relieves me of negative feelings, gives me strength and motivation. I like different kinds of music, at the moment mostly melodic and progressive genres of death and black metal. My preferences change over time, but the two albums that definitely had the greatest influence on my life are the Black Album by Metallica and Lateralus by Tool.

I like spending my time actively, sometimes indulging in a little bit of extravagance. From time to time I attend to concerts, music parties and clubs. More often I just go out to have fun with my friends and spend as much time away from computers as possible.
