Following our will and wind
We may just go where no one's been
-- Tool, Lateralus
My name is Michał Męciński, I live in Poland, I was born in 1982. I graduated Computer Studies at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. I work as a developer and technical team lead for a quickly expanding software company in Gliwice, where I use mostly Microsoft .NET technologies. I'm also involved in creating free software for both Linux and Windows, where I prefer to use C++ with the Qt framework and PHP.
It's difficult to specify one domain of programming which I like most. Once my dream was to create computer games, and I liked working with 3D graphics and scripting engines. But with the right attitude and creativeness, even a classic multi-tier system can be an interesting challenge. Many of my projects that take years to emerge before the idea evolves into the shape that satisfies me. I enjoy designing functional and technical aspects of applications even more than actual coding.
Another important thing in my life is music, which allows me to relax and inspires me. I like various kinds of metal and my preferences change over time, from thrash metal, through melodic death and black metal to progressive genres. The two most albums which are most important to me are the Black Album by Metallica and Lateralus by Tool. I'm also a big fan of movies, especially from the 80s and 90s, and my favorite directors are Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.
I like spending my free time actively and away from computers as often as possible. I attend to festivals and concerts, swim and ride a bicycle, go out with my friends. Recently I bought a flat and got married and together with my wife we have plans to visit all Europe, start our own business and raise children.
